Counseling is a process of:

Counseling assists individuals, groups or families to:

in attitudes, feelings and behaviors and to enhance life.
Counseling is provided by a number of different and related certified and licensed professionals:
- Psychologists
- Social workers
- Professional counselors
- Marriage and family therapists
Counseling professionals use a variety of different theoretical styles while providing services, such as:
- Psycho-dynamic
- Cognitive behavioral
- Non-directive
The initial counseling session usually is used to listen and learn as much about the client and the situation as possible. Many times the counselor will take notes and ask questions. At the conclusion of the session, the client and counselor together discuss options and plans for problem resolution and future sessions.
